WILL I REALLY GET RESULTS WITH VIRTUAL LESSONS?

I promise you will! There’s nothing I can’t explain over a video call or email that could be explained better by standing three feet away from you. For years I have encouraged my students to get me videos between lessons. It truly does not matter how lessons are completed. It matters the effort that you, the owner, is putting into the training.

For years now, top trainers have offered virtual and DVD programs for their students with epic success! Topics of successful programs have included aggression, developing a flawless recall, or a world class sport dog. Tufts university has actually conducted a study with trainers of aggressive dogs and proven that virtual programs were just as effective as in person lessons.

WILL YOU TRAIN MY DOG IF IT’S (THIS) BREED, AGE, ISSUES?

Yes! I have been training professionally for a decade and a half now. In this time I have personally successfully helped dogs of all breeds, ages, and behavior problems. At the end of the day while things like age and breed can have a big impact on why and how your dog behaves, behavior theory remains a constant. Each dog is looked at as an individual, and every training program is tailored to bring success of both the dog and their owner by utilizing how each individual learns best.

HOW LONG WILL TRAINING TAKE?

The short answer is that during our consultation we will discuss in detail the goals that you need to accomplish with training. Your program will be a set number of weeks worth of material, and sometimes we will add in a week during the training program if it’s needed. The long answer is that training is a life-long process. Your dog will always do what is reinforcing, so training sessions should be a regular occurrence in your dog’s life in order to maintain the high level of training that you desire.

WHAT WILL I HAVE TO DO DURING TRAINING?

I ask that students dedicate fifteen minutes a day to training. This can be broken down into smaller segments, like working five times a day at three minutes each, or one long fifteen minute session. You shouldn’t have to disrupt your entire life just to train your dog!

You will have reading materials that will guide you step by step through each lesson, as well as common mistakes and goals to accomplish before moving onto the next stage. With each lesson you’re free to schedule as many video calls as you need to feel comfortable with the training that is happening. The more you communicate with your trainer the faster and smoother things will flow!

WHAT METHODS AND EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?

I use operant conditioning to focus on the dog’s emotional state and get to the bottom of what drives poor, impulsive dog behavior. By creating a calmer dog overall we can expect better family behavior that we don’t have to have eyes on the back of our heads to monitor.

The more I train the more reliant I am on rewards and “positive” training. The truth is that dog’s will always do what is reinforcing. We can either steal the reinforcement from something they like (lunging to greet another person or dog) or add reinforcement to something we want them to do (stay next to us on leash). I want to always make sure the behavior that I want is also the thing the dog is compelled to do.

I do believe that corrections have a place in dog training, especially when the safety of the owner or dog is in question, but I use these mostly as management techniques while working on training a dog to act in a desirable way.

CAN MY DOG DO THIS IF THEY ARE TIMID OR NERVOUS?

YES! All my training focuses heavily on confidence building and that’s one of my favorite things to do! A training program will probably be a good way to completely change your dog’s world for the better. Many of the exercises in every one of my programs are specifically geared towards confidence building and we can add more if needed to your customized program.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T GET THE RESULTS I WANT? IS THERE A GUARANTEE?

Unfortunately there’s no guarantee with animal behavior. No one will ever be able to predict with 100% accuracy, how an animal will behave in any given situation.

What I can promise is that my programs are all goal oriented, which means that I will continue to work with you until our goals for the program are met. I am all about creative solutions and problem solving, so I’ll keep working on your specific program until we find a method that works for you.

DO YOU WORK WITH AGGRESSIVE DOGS

Yes I do! This is one of my favorite things to help with. Working with aggressive dogs in boarding kennels is how I got my professional start in dog training and behavior and I love to help these dogs. Please reach out for a consultation so that we can go over your details.

I REALLY WANT TO TRAIN MY DOG BUT I CAN'T AFFORD A TRAINING PROGRAM. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO?

I understand that training is a serious commitment. I accept all major credit cards as well as payment plans. If a training program just isn't in the cards you can join my FaceBook group How to Train Your Asshole Dog, where I post new exercises and training games every Monday.
